Looking for a powerhouse of an SBC, but one that is still affordable? The ROCKPro64 is the most powerful Single Board Computer released by PINE64, powered by Rockchip’s RK3399 processor. The RK3399 is a 6-core chip with two ARM Cortex-A72 CPU cores, four Cortex-A53 cores, and Mali-T860MP4 graphics. This impressive single board computer is offered in 2GB and 4GB configurations.

Moreover, the board comes packed with features, including an USB 3.0 and USB type C with DP1.2 port, a full PCIe x4 as well as eMMC module socket. You also get a 40pin header with I2C, SPI, UARTs and GPIOs.

The board is backwards compatible with many of the existing PINE64 peripherals, including the Wifi/BT module, camera module and LCD panel. All this in the exact same model “A” dimension as the original PINE A64.

Amazing, super powerful SBC! Don't forget the premium aluminum case!

Great all-around computer. I was a bit skeptical after reading some reviews, but after a couple of weeks with it, I am loving it. I got it to replace my Odroid N2+ 4GB that I ruined when I scratched its PCB inadvertently. Since the N2+ is out of stock everywhere, I looked for something similar and got this thinking it would be slightly inferior. I think overall, it is actually the other way round, considering the expansion capabilities.
I use ArchLinux on as many devices as I can, so not seeing this model listed on their page discouraged me a little bit. Fortunately, I can confirm now that the generic version for ARMv8 works flawlessly, once you compile u-boot for this model. If you don't want the hassle, you can also get Manjaro (ArchLinux derivative), or just use their u-boot version. Once you solve this, everything is great.
A very, very important factor to recommend it, is the Premium Aluminum case available for only $15. It acts as a wonderful passive heatsink (it gets quite hot, definitely requires one) and is very elegant and very sturdy.
I am using it as my desktop replacement. I need to work on accelerating the video playback yet, but youtube at 1080p with the default options is acceptable. Everything else is super snappy.
I made the big mistake of ordering it from Pine64.com, which takes forever to ship and to arrive in the US. I am definitely ordering my next Pine64 items from Ameridroid, given the perfect experiences I have had so far.
I don't miss my N2+ at all.

Outstanding and powerful ARM64 SBC board, works better with TwisterOS Armbian

I got one 3 days ago and was so pleased with its performance and features, I ordered a 2nd one from Ameridroid and got it shipped same day I ordered.
This board has been released in 2018 but was lacking a friendly and full featured OS that works out-of-the-box with mainline kernels and HW acceleration on Desktop, specially for beginners and Intermediate Linux users. Not anymore, once I installed TwisterOS Armbian on it, runs blazing fast from eMMC and even from microSD, supports safe Overclocking, has HW acceleration on Desktop OS, has Panfrost/OpenGL 3.1 Mesa, has many included apps compiled for it such as Kodi, MPV, Retro emulation apps, and several OpenGL games too and even a Chromium Browser in a Docker Container that can play popular streaming services as Netflix, Disney+, amazon prime, and spotify. RockPro64 offers some unique features not present in any other RK3399 board such as Power on, reset and recover button, a PCIe X4 slot that accepts NVMe drives and 4 SATA HDD/SSD drives when use with the right add-on card for RockPro64. RockPro64 board doesn't come with a BT/WIFI built-in chip but you can use a low price USB BT or buy the official module from Ameridroid. I have used both solutions. RockPro64 also has a PWM fan header, RTC and SPDIF connectors. Best of all at least for me, it has SPI memory allowing to program bootloader and can boot from USB3 SSD. Make sure to buy a heatsink. Great media server with DietPi!

I had an Odroid C2 with DietPi and it worked great, but I need a little more power and even more ram for Jellyfin media server along with my nextcloud. This needs a heatsink and a power adapter so make sure you get that. I believe it's a 5.5mm by 2.5mm barrel connector. I got a good one on Amazon for $15 ish. Definitely needs a heatsink though! I recommend ordering them together. Have fun with your new toy!

Better than other SBCs.

In addition to my favorite cluster built with 4 units of ODROID MC1 (see advanced setup (https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-mc1-my-cluster-one-with-32-cpu-cores-and-8gb-dram/), I decided to build another personal cluster.
Hence, I bought a RockPro64 (4 GB memory), ODROID-N2 (2GB memory), and Khadas VIM3 (4 GB memory).

Since my main calculation is a molecular dynamics simulation with the quantum mechanical force field using the MPI, I need a fast CPU with many cores.
In short, after a short simulation , I learned that RockPro64 is slightly better than ODROID-N2.
Unexpectedly, Khada VIM3 is horribly slower than RockPro64 and ODROID-N2.

For time being, ODROID-MC1 is much better in the computational speed of the MPI-based molecular dynamics calculation than other SBCs since one ODROID-MC1 has 32 CPU cores, which give a huge advantage in the MPI (parallel) jobs.

Do not buy. Poor quality

I had the same experience many others had with the board not booting. I gave up and came back to it after about a year when I finally got Android 7 to work.

This was short lived... After only a week of using the board for Kodi it suddenly shut off. Trying to power the board back on only results in a pulsing noise and pulsing green power LED. Not the power supply because I've tried another power supply with the same voltage, amperage, etc...

After spending over $100 for the 4gb version with power supply,case, emmc... I got a week's use from the thing and it died.

Bottom line, this was my last Pine product. I bought the Pinebook when it first came out and it arrived with 3 dead pixels (and that's apparently normal). Just stay away from this brand... They are overpriced for the quality and you get no support. They don't stand by their products.

Sorry to hear about your experience, Avinash, and thank you for your honest review. Just like any other electronic product, especially ones that are sold as developer boards, there is more opportunity for failure due to a number of issues. Pre-built systems avoid many of these problems by coming pre-assembled and pre-loaded for a specific use case. We will shortly be adding a warranty option for these so end-users and commercial clients can have more options when deciding what they need.

In the interest of transparency, we have a corporate customer who has ordered several batches of ROCKPro64 units, totaling nearly 600 units. They have returned a total of 6 units due to defects, so that's right around a 1% failure rate, which is pretty low for a bare PCB of this complexity.

Pine64 also provides pretty decent community support through their forum at forum.pine64.org.

We use ROCKPro64 units as supplementary desktop systems on our desks here at ameriDroid, so we've had a fair amount of experience with using them reliably. That's not to say that a few units may encounter problems like yours. But we do everything that we can do to help support resolving your issues.
