How does this compare to the Home Assistant Yellow (formerly Amber)?

  • The Home Assistant Standard N2+ Bundle has 2 extra CPU cores, twice the RAM, and 4 times the eMMC storage as the standard Yellow version, but the Standard bundle has a lower cost.
  • The Home Assistant Standard XU4 Bundle has 4 extra CPU cores and 4 times the microSD storage as the standard Yellow version, at a much lower cost.
  • The Standard N2+ Bundle has 4x USB 3.0 ports and 1x USB OTG port, while the Standard XU4 Bundle has 2x USB 3.0 ports and 1x USB 2.0 ports, where the Yellow has 2x USB 2.0 and 1x USB-C 2.0 ports.
  • The Zigbee functionality is included on the Yellow whereas if this functionality is desired on the Standard N2+ Bundle, it would have to be added via USB, which would bring the Standard Bundle's price slightly higher than the Yellow. The Standard XU4 Bundle would still be less expensive than the Yellow with the Zigbee functionality added. This functionality can be added using the Home Assistant SkyConnect Dongle or the SONOFF Zigbee Dongle.
  • The Yellow includes an integrated M.2 expansion slot, as does the ODROID-M1 bundles listed above.

    • All variants presently available are assembled and tested in California by ameriDroid technicians before our California-based shipping team packages and sends them to our customers.

BUNDLES ARE NOT PLUG AND PLAY

If you are looking for a plug and play unit, I would go to another vendor. Ameridroid claims that it tests its bundles before shipping, but that is not so. In fact, they do not even make sure that all items are placed inside the shipping box. Now, their customer service is fast in responding to your inquiries. However, rather than resolve the problem that they caused, they start blaming the shipper and end up asking you to reflash the eMMC and perform a new install -yes, the very same process that they charge you for when selling a working and tested bundled-.

We test all units before shipping, and based on the information provided, we can confirm that was the case here. The customer indicated that the eMMC had come loose during transit, which can occasionally happen despite our best efforts. We sincerely apologized and immediately offered a return label for a full refund. After reconnecting the eMMC, the unit booted successfully, confirming that it had been properly flashed with Home Assistant OS.

However, the customer was unable to access port :8123, despite being able to reach port :4357. This is a rare issue we have encountered before, and neither we nor Home Assistant have found a root cause or a way to fully prevent it. That’s why we include a disclaimer on the product page:

'In some rare cases, if you are able to access port :4357 but cannot access port :8123 after the first boot, you will need to follow instructions from Appendix A of our guide to access the Home Assistant interface.'

We shared these troubleshooting steps with the customer and again offered a return label if they preferred not to go through the process.

The customer mentioned previously purchasing a Home Assistant Blue from us, but they had actually purchased another pre-assembled unit with the same ODROID hardware. In that case, they did not encounter the port :8123 issue, but that was simply fortunate.

Throughout our communication, we consistently offered a return label for a full refund. When the customer expressed frustration and accused us of fraud, we reiterated that we would provide a return label to send the units back for a full refund. The customer then stated they would file a claim with their credit card, and as of now, we have not received further communication or confirmation that the unit will be returned.

We take customer satisfaction seriously and strive to provide prompt support and transparency in our product listings. We regret that this experience did not meet the customer’s expectations, but we remain committed to assisting where possible.

    Great product and great support

The Enthusiast was exactly what I was looking for. I have contact support three times (once by phone, twice by email). Each time, the response was quick/accurate and provided by someone who knew what they were talking about. V

    Great platform for Home Assistant

I bought an Odroid N2+ in June of 2022 and have been using it as my Home Assistant platform ever since. It has performed amazingly well, and I have thousands of Home Assistant entities, all running perfectly with no performance issues. Our home has become so dependent on this that I ordered a second one to keep as a “hot spare”. I was able to setup the new one quickly, and now have it running as a second instance of Home Assistant, with access to the backup files of my primary Odroid. That way, if the main unit ever fails I can restore the backup to the secondary unit. In the meantime, this new unit allows me to test things out, or try new upgrades before installing on the main system. These are great units and I highly recommend them for anyone interested in Home Assistant.
