Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition is the open source, privacy-focused voice assistant built to seamlessly connect with Home Assistant, and preview the future of voice today. Its advanced audio processor and dual microphones allow it to hear your commands and control devices. Tactile controls, the injection-molded case and LED ring lend to its premium feel, allowing it to blend into the home. 

Note: Voice Preview Edition requires Home Assistant to operate. Lower-performance Home Assistant hardware may result in slower speech processing. For optimal performance, we recommend offloading speech processing to Home Assistant Cloud if your hardware is less powerful. If you are experiencing issues please try to upgrade to the latest firmware by connecting your HA Voice PE to a computer via USB-C and using this tool "https://esphome.github.io/home-assistant-voice-pe/".

  • Preview the future of voice today: Home Assistant is rapidly advancing their open source, privacy-focused voice assistant for the home. Preview Edition was built to help more people participate in development and allow anyone to preview the future of voice today.
  • The easiest way to start with Assist: Just connect it to USB-C power (cable and power supply not included) and it will connect with Home Assistant via an intuitive installation wizard. No assembly required. 
  • The private voice assistant: Pairing Voice Preview Edition with powerful Home Assistant hardware can allow it to run fully locally, or offload its audio processing to the privacy-focused Home Assistant Cloud. It also includes a hardware mute switch that physically cuts power to the microphones.
  • Language support: Assist aims to support more languages than other voice assistants, but this is still a work in progress, and Home Assistant needs your help. Check the supported languages in the Home Assistant’s Assist documentation.
  • Advanced Audio Processing: Dual microphones and the XMOS audio processor cuts through noise to hear your voice clearly.
  • Visual and audio feedback: The multicolored LED ring displays when it's listening, volume levels, and more. Get sensor readings, timers and other feedback via its speaker. Connect an external speaker for media playback via its 3.5mm headphone jack.
  • Physical controls: The rotary dial lets you control volume and LED brightness, while the multifunction button can trigger Assist or be customized in Home Assistant.
  • Blends into the home: Its small, unobtrusive design is injection-molded giving it a premium look, and its tactile controls give it a premium feel.
  • Expandable: Built on ESPHome, sensors can be added via the included Grove port.
  • Fully open and community-driven: Completely open software, firmware, and hardware lets you make it work the way you want.  All backed by a dedicated community customizing and adding functionality.

Requirements

Home Assistant already configured on another device. 

For fully local speech processing, we recommend a 
Home Assistant system based on an Intel N100 or higher
for the best experience. Lower-performance hardwaremay
work but could lead to slower processing.
If you experience delays, you have options:

  • Consider using external hardware for voice
    processing, such as a
    more powerful server or a dedicated system.
  • Offload speech processing to Home Assistant Cloud,
    which ensures smooth performance regardless of
    your hardware.

This flexibility allows you to choose the setup
that works best for your needs.

Solid Ecomm Experience, Device more complex than expected

My experience with the AmeriDroid has been great. Everything is top-notch on the e-comm side.

As far as the device goes, this is probably user ineptitude, but after a week or so of tinkering, I still haven't gotten this device to work. Mainly because I'm starting cold with the Home Assistant ecosystem. I expected to have a fair amount of work to onboard and learn through this process, but I'm still wrestling with virtual machine networking configurations so that Home Assistant actually works. Until I'm done with that, I can't turn my attention to the device that I purchased.

So I guess it's not really a complaint about the device, just buyer beware that if you're not a Home Assistant intermediate to expert user, you're going to have a steep uphill climb to integrate this into your life. I am still excited about getting this working, but I did underestimate that even as a seasoned hardware professional and with the benefit of more tech support than I've ever had, I'm still struggling to get this to this ecosystem to exhibit basic functionality for myself and my needs.

Quality Build, and works like a charm.

If you have found this product, you already know what it can do, so we won't cover that part of it. This product is a great additional to your HA ecosystem to replace Bezo's assistant. Wheel provides solid feedback, Leds are just bright enough without being too bright, the case is solid, speaker is what you would expect, its not a problem, just but Dolby surround sound :D Great product!

Great Device

These are a fantastic addition to Home Assistant. Already far more functional and configurable that the Google speakers I am replacing them with. The "ask a question" functionality is so useful. Great stuff from Nabu Casa.

Works fine, I think...

Hey Nabu,
Any issues I am having are more to do with my using the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition with locally hosted LLMs and configuration of the Home Generative Agent. I'm generally pleased with the whole system, even though it does have a few rough edges... I've only just begun addressing the HGA with queries about the system beyond just those entities exposed to the Voice Assistant. The future of AI integration into HA looks bright, thanks to everybody at Nabu Casa!
