I’ve been using the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition, and it’s honestly impressive how far things have come. The wake word detection is quick, responses are natural, and—best of all—everything runs locally. No cloud dependency, no data being shipped off somewhere, just fast and private smart home control.

Setup was surprisingly straightforward, and it already works with most of my Home Assistant automations without extra tinkering. The voice feedback feels thoughtful and personal, not robotic or canned. It’s still early days, but this preview shows massive potential—especially for anyone who values privacy, customization, and open-source innovation.

If this is just the preview, the full release is going to be a game-changer.

This is an, in three word, amazing little device. The detection is spot on and I didn’t realize I could even use it to detect pressure, to for example, turn off all lights and set the alarm to active, when going to bed. But I think I’ve only scratched the surface with this amazing device!

This hardware is cool. Very small, very light, very fast. Just plug it in and it works! The Zigbee antenna is very convenient and is integrated tightly. Looks like plenty of software and firmware updates have been on deck. I appreciate the work that went into this product.

I'm helping my daughter build an escape room for fun, and we wanted the participants to solve a riddle, placing runestones in a correct orientation (I'm using Sonoff Door/Window sensors for those, also available at ameridroid). When two runestones are placed in the correct position, a deep church bell sound plays over the speaker. When all the runestones are in the correct position, there's a 5 second delay, and then a voice says "Well done, squires" over this. Then, it triggers a box to open up using a Shelly 1 UL and Shelly Manipulator run with a 12V battery. Lots of fun!

When all three sensors are triggered (meaning the runestones are in the correct order and orientation) this triggers a Shelly Manipulator controlled by a Shelly 1 UL which are both also available at ameridroid, and those are both run by a 12V battery that came out of a faulty UPS (battery backup). It's a lot of fun.

I just moved the jumper from the AC position to the DC position before hooking it up to the battery, and everything works great!

I watched the garage door opener video and converted my old garage door to use this. Recently, I added a Third Reality Zigbee button and created an automation in Home Assistant to trigger the Shelly 1 UL when the button is double-clicked (to avoid accidental presses in the pocket). Works super fast and awesome!

Created a quick automation in Home Assistant to activate the Shelly 1 UL when this button is double-clicked. Super fast response and reliable! In the past I had tried a battery powered wifi button, but it took too long for it to negotiate with the router each time it was pressed. No such problem with this!
